Curse Client

Happiness is when you play a game so well that people call you a hacker.

There are two types of people in the world, those who can extrapolate from incomplete information.

Wasn't curse client primarily used in wow to distribute malware or something?  I seem to recall seeing warnings about using curse for add-ons.

Can't speak to that Loxx, but Curse was a godsend for managing addons in WoW when I played. Run Curse, update everything, you're done. I quit about four years ago now I guess, could have had some probs since then.

They were compromised at one point around '08 or '09. Details are fuzzy now, but if I remember right, the Curse WoW addon was fine but their web portal redirected to malware sites. I think it was only for a few hours then took the site offline for a week or two, so that the malware plus long period of noncommunication made the circulating rumors worse than the facts. I wasn't using Curse at the time, and of the people I know who did use it no one was harmed directly as far as I remember.

Of course, just this year some malware's been circulating that claims to be the curse client, and that news is swamping any attempt to google the old problem.

Yeah, that rings a bell Mag. I remember not being worried about it since I did all my business through the client.

well i played early BC for a couple months, then about 8 months in the middle of WotLK so it may have been that long ago.  All I remember is looking into add-ons and people were saying don't use curse because it was loaded with malware, but I never really got into wow so I didn't really investigate much

I've only been using these for two days but I've found them pretty useful:

BijiPlates - Almost required makes nameplates easier to interpret (especially for healing)

IconLoot - Adds notification while looting trash.

JunkIt - Button to sell all trash items

NavMate - Better minimap

PotatoUI - This one is up to you but I like it better than default. Changes the UI in a way that makes resource management easier.

That's about it. After using these I don't think I can go back to the default UI.
