Comic-Con WildStar Meetup
« on: Oct 06, 2013, 11:36 AM »
I'll be meeting the community reps for wildstar on Friday night at Comic-Con. https://t.co/QvTsGBVK60 I can ask them some questions on behalf of you guys if you like, but there aren't any devs there as far as I know so keep that in mind.

You mean besides where's my beta key?
Happiness is when you play a game so well that people call you a hacker.

There are two types of people in the world, those who can extrapolate from incomplete information.

You mean besides where's my OUR beta key?

FTFY

for serious though, I want to know mostly about crafting.  Will it be a contested mini-game crafting system or a click-to-make system? will crafted stuff be desirable?  why?  etc.

Make sure you ask lot's of PvP questions for us PvPers. I personally want to know what else they have done or how much more they will do with the "Warplots." All I know about them is from a single video :o

Cates, there was another Tor meetup, too. I went, and it served only to remind me how over the game I am. Three times as big a crowd as last year, I'd wager, but they said and did nothing of interest at all. Pretty lame.

Anyway, about Wildstar. Most of the people there were hardcore fans; the guys who ran wildstar fans, wildstar radio podcast, and wildstar central. I was one of the least informed people there, and one of very few that hadn't played the game extensively.

For crafting, I brought up the subject and the CMs had no comment. The system is currently being redesigned, and they weren't going to tell me anything; they said I'd have to wait until they can put something up online. Maybe in the next month, we'd find a write-up.

About PvP, they're balancing the game for PvE they said. I was really suprised they were so bold about that, so I asked them to clarify for me, but I didn't get much more out of it. They will not give abilities different values or mechanics in PvP and PvE. Arenas come in 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 sizes. Battlegrounds come in different sizes from 8v8 up to 40v40. He couldn't remember if they were going to do a 4v4 battleground, but didn't think so. World PvP would be allowed, like in SWTOR, but not encouraged. There would be no designated areas, essentially, or large-scale rewards for PvPing outside of battlegrounds and arenas. Still, kills would reward XP, and possibly also some loot.

Warplots are not part of the game world; in battlegrounds, a floating island flies in and lands as your base for the duration of the Battleground. It does have some persistence though, from one BG to the next. You have to spend WarCoins to pay for the upkeep, to repair from damage taken, to add new plugs, or summon the captured raid bosses. The bosses are slightly scaled down and have less health, but otherwise keep their abilities and mechanics. WarCoins come from PvP, but I don't know how exactly. They're probably awarded after a BG is over.

They will have a web API available; it's already working, they tell me. Third parties can pull up character and item info. They want to get mouseovers working (I think so you can just type an item name in forums without a direct link to it and a mouseover shows the stats).

First party website wise, they don't have much yet. They don't know what will be live by launch, either. They want to do a full armory (lodestone) post-launch, including leaderbords and character info.

Beta testing for guild groups has not begun, so we could still see that.

They're about to start livestreaming.

The whole game is playable, from character creation to level cap, but it's a matter of polish.

You can have 8 skill slots on your bar; you pick from about 30 skills. Some classes may have as many as 40, but 30 is typical.

For the colorblind, you can pick custom colors for each type of telegraph so you can customize to your preference.

I asked what /played time would it take to get to level cap. They were all adamant that they wouldn't say, but they were drunk, and did slip hints. First: it should be awesome, and you should have fun, so why does it matter how long it takes? Bullshit, but whatever, that's the line they're feeding. One guy, though, said... "no matter how long we want it to take, there's always going to be someone who rushes it in 20, 30, 50 hours." So I expect 50 hours to still be a very fast shot at it, intended to be a lot longer than that.

Last thing I have, is that there's an appearance tab where you drop in any gear to display on your character; the stats won't apply. In a PvP match, this feature is disabled, and you'll see your opponent's real PvP gear.

And I disappear, a ghost admidst the combat, preparing to strike.
It was your own fault; You should have paid attention and looked through the lie.
A most confused death, dead before he even knew where I struck from.
Farewell foolish thing.  Know that you have been deceived, as your soul moves on.

But you didn't.

When we filled out the beta surveys, you'll all remember there's a portion that asks about your guild, and if you wanted to volunteer the entire guild to test group encounters. I know I opted in, and I'm sure many others did too.

What they said was that they haven't used that information yet. Beta invite waves will go out to some whole guilds, based on that info they collected. I name dropped LD50 a few times, and gave some of the guys web links.

That aside, some other people may have been contacted and invites gone out by hand, or whatever. If that did happen it was from outside the system they've set up to bring in guilds. According to the CMs, we haven't been skipped for that pass, since it hasn't happened.

Ehhh "no guild group testing" & "no guild group testing through their guild opt in system" are two different things, no? Either way I'm expecting beta to be back shortly and it shall be interdasting to see how they "reworked" their questing system even though I think it's supposedly only visual (bleh bars, numbers.. what's the difference?) also really awesome to hear about the highly likelihood of the armory considering I think it's pretty essential these days and a giant time killer for people unable to play.

Sure, they're different. There's lots of other ways to interpret what I said, including "in-game testing of guild invites and guild management ui hasn't started" or whatever. But in speaking to this audience, I didn't think there'd be much confusion. I could probably have expanded most of those categories I one-lined into the same 100 word length, it just didn't seem worth the trouble when I was pretty sure we'd all know I was talking about our guild possibly getting lots of beta invites.

I dunno I feel like even if I wasn't in beta I would still like to know if guilds are working on the game/raid testing to improve it. Guess that's just me.  ???
