Visual basic
« on: Feb 19, 2013, 02:30 PM »
Long story short: havent really had an opportunity to program anything since college (10+ years) and now i really want to cram some visual basic 2010 into my skull for work.  Anyone know of some really amazing books or resources for self-teaching?

If you've used any other object orientated programming software you should be able to grasp VB pretty quickly.

Back when i learned programming the only "software" was UltraEdit or Vi  :o

I have some real basic experience in c++, java and some perl scrpting, but i understand most of the core stuff like fuction calls, objects, inheritance etc, i just never really applied any of it.

If you know c++ I think visual basic will be a breeze for you to relearn. I'm from the new school programming and I prefer VB, its a lot easier. I do know a lot of old schoolers who like c++ better.

Why are you trying get into VB? Just for kicks or are you actually going to apply what you need to learn some where? If you are going to teach yourself a language these days I'd start learning something like Dart, Zimbu, Python, or even Objective C.
