Suggest a gaming monitor
« on: Dec 02, 2013, 05:19 PM »
For no good reason, I'm thinking about upgrading my monitor. My current monitor is mostly the value category; basic 1920x1080 and about 23", it doesn't really have any upshots. It's time to upgrade to a proper gaming monitor, but I'd like suggestions. I like the current size but I've got the hardware to run 2560x1440 smoothly so I might be willing to upgrade to 27" to get that if it's worthwhile. I'd like to spend less than $500 but that's a soft cap so if it runs a bit over it'd be ok.

I'm not doing photo editing or playing FPS games so perks that mostly apply to those aren't very enticing.

A Dell Ultrasharp is what I'd really like to have, I have seen several in person and they are just amazing.  Really looking at a getting a pair of 24's with my tax refund PC build.

THIS also looks interesting if you're into cinematic aspect ratios

This is my primary monitor, and so far I love it. If you don't care about your budget, then there are probably much better options out there for you. Best bang for my buck imo, some people might disagree but the colors still remain very vibrant and sharp and I can very easily see every detail on my toons in FF. For 300 bucks, I'm not really dissapointed. As a plus, I am able to actually carry around this monitor with one arm for a brief period of time, the weight was not taxing on me at all.

Cons: Was too bright when I powered it up initially. I changed the settings to be a little easier on my eyes, and the stand could use a little more solidarity but as long as you're not turning this into a monitor that needs to be mobile it works just fine. Also does not come with an HDMI cable, must be purchased separately.

At-A-Glance Specs:

- 27" wide
- 2ms
- native resolution: 1920 x 1080
- ratio: 1000 to 1

Edit: Just realized Pat recommended something really similar to mine lol.
