Site Stuff

Because my memory has turned to goo.

Players/Roster page

Instead of having the standard list with a lot of mostly irrelevant information (like Tyranny's RM), do a two column list with just names, broken down by class. Stick an image in the background that is iconic to the class (floated to the right, obviously). Use background colors that are class linked with a shadow gradient behind every other name. Make it auto-updating... If the information can't be scraped once the game goes live, create an extra profile field with primary class.

Update:
So it would look something like the following with two blocks per row (targeting a min site width of 1200 or 1080):
Jedi Shadows
Mercenaries
Vanguards

There are eight classes per faction, so that's 8 blocks in a 2x4 display. The background images should probably be more complicated--like the toon is standing in front of a location that is somewhat iconic as well. For example, the Vanguard in front of a smoking transport on Ord Mantell or whatever.

Articles and blogs

Since the storage system is basically the same, creating articles and blogs is minimal code time, even if they prove to be useless.

Update: Tossed in rudimentary versions of these. I'll have to redo the article navigation because it's completely non-intuitive. The blog concept has to be redone from scratch since its current implementation pisses me off.

Countdown WIP and messing with sub-page display: http://ld-fifty.com/index.php?page=1 (That link is the privacy policy now.)

Also, guild rosters can be scraped, so I'll get to work on that soonish.

I'm going to breaking some things over the next hour or so -- including layout issues, so if you see unexpected things, that's why.

It's temporary.

Done mucking about for the time being. Any errors you see now, you should let me know about. :P

Just some feedback, I hit the next thread button when trying to go to the next page, not the next thread. Clearer labeling might be useful, or maybe just swapping positions and inserting a next/back for pages?

Those buttons are pretty confusing and they behave unexpectedly even when you know what they are. They're gone for now, but they might be back later.

There was an issue with the mail server today. So confirmation emails for registration mot not have arrived.

The issue has been resolved.

And yeah, it was totally my fault.

Added prelaunch countdown to the Home page.

Also I'm going to need something to fit in that space after launch. So if anyone has any ideas...

Something badass.

But to answer it seriously, we don't have a guild news section. Kind of strikes me as odd, unless you fully intended it to be forum based. Posting kill screenshots and progression is the traditional homepage if you want to go that route(Not sure how viable that is currently). Or whatever is striking the admins fancy at the moment(Game news, etc).

Yeah. Eventuallly we'll have things in that slot like new boss kills, zone clears, links to well written class guides, etc. It's a carousel and we'll keep the top four or five links to news, etc. scrolling in that space. I've got PSDs waiting around to be used when appropriate.

Just need something as a place holder in the interim. We can put anything in there, including videos.

I was thinking that if we could get some people who wanted to stream gameplay, we could stick links there. We have a livestream account laying around somewhere so we can do the coop streaming thing, too.

/edit

Almost forgot. In regards to the News section, we'll have one when we have News. I just hate empty boards.  ::)

I could, and would love to stream gameplay, especially at launch and during levels 1-30. Would promote the game and give people an idea of what to expect!

I like the idea of the news section though too.

And you should be able to auto embed videos now. In other words, typing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd8iZB4IW_o

will yield this:

youtube short urls (youtu.be) will work here unlike at some other site.  ::)

If anything looks odd or graphics seem to be missing...

I changed a lot of css so you might have to shift+f5 (or shift + refresh) the page to load the css changes since the old file will still be cached on your machine.

I moved everyone from the Test theme to the Live theme.

You shouldn't notice a difference (except some icons that your browser may have had incorrectly cached will change).

If you notice anything full of fail, please let me know.
