Fixing YouTube
« on: Apr 04, 2013, 08:52 PM »
So, not sure how many of you experience this, but YouTube kinda sucks balls, amiright? Their adverts load up in 1080p instantly but my video takes forever to buffer at 480. Whats up with that? Here's a script command, i.e. a "rule" for CMD that that will block CDN IP's, which cause the terrible load times. The trade off is a 1-2 second delay at the start of the video. Just tried this now, didn't even restart Mozilla. Video I was watching in 480p that wasn't loading at all, fully loaded in 1080p when I refreshed the page.

This is a Bad Idea if you're not having issues.

The easiest way to tell if you're having issues is to go to:

http://www.youtube.com/my_speed

If your speed is slower than your ISP's by more than 20% (or your ISP is slower than 4Mbps), blocking CDNs might help you. For everyone else, it will more than likely slow you down.

This usually only happens to people with ISP's that are doing Stupid Shit(tm). Most notably, Time Warner and Cox Comm.

Happiness is when you play a game so well that people call you a hacker.

There are two types of people in the world, those who can extrapolate from incomplete information.

I tried this and it slowed my load speeds over tenfold.  Didn't really have too many problems before.
And I disappear, a ghost admidst the combat, preparing to strike.
It was your own fault; You should have paid attention and looked through the lie.
A most confused death, dead before he even knew where I struck from.
Farewell foolish thing.  Know that you have been deceived, as your soul moves on.
