Cellphones and VPNs
« on: Jul 02, 2014, 01:08 PM »
So I get terribad cell service at work, but just recently they setup a public WiFi in the office.  Due to the massive amount of data we work with, the office is on an incredibly amazing cnxn so it sounds perfect.  The downside is, being a federally regulated industry and one of the largest health insurers in the country, our In-office data is heavily monitored....

so, is there a secure VPN or tunneling service that would work well on a cell or with cell data?

These are the guys I use and I've never had a problem with them. It can start getting a bit pricey, but they do allow you to trial for free. I believe the trial cap is 300?mb, which isn't a great amount but you can get an idea if it'll work for you. The only downside is that you must have an itunes account. I'm sure someone else will make a better suggestion, just thought I'd throw my 2c in.

See if your router has an SSH option built into it.  If not, install tomatoe or DD-WRT and get it enabled.  You can open an SSH tunnel to your house using Open VPN and you'll be covered.

I don't know if this is an option for you because i don't know if it's a secure connection or whatever, but I use SplashTop.  2 bucks a month or 16 bucks for the year.  I did my crimson dailies from my EXTREMELY locked down internet at work today.  I am blown away by how well it works.  You can do Computer to computer or computer to mobile.

Teamviewer is a free option but it doesn't work as well as splashtop.
