Things to do before launch
« on: Nov 30, 2011, 10:34 PM »
For everyone:
1. Install Internet Explorer 9, even if you never use Internet Explorer. (Windows XP users make sure you have Internet Explorer 8.) The game launcher uses Internet Explorer and errors have cropped up in the past when using IE7 or lower. Hopefully they're resolved, but an ounce of prevention...

For tweakers (not for the faint of heart):
2. If you have an SSD and the game is installed on a spindle drive (like it should be), make sure you move your Assets directory to your SSD and symlink it. Find basic instructions here.

Above and beyond (seriously not for the faint of heart):
3. If you have 8 gigs of RAM or more, you can think about installing a 2GB RAM Drive (or more) to use for the game's cache files. In the current build, cache files are under 2GB and are some of the most accessed files while the game is running. Putting them on a RAM Drive as opposed to an SSD is much faster, especially for writes. Find basic instructions here.

So.... what if I have NO version of ie on my computer at all?
I have to install 9 to just sit unused in my programs?

Also, do you happen to know if all beta files need to be deleted? I would assume so, but I have no clue if they would be able to used what you already have loaded to patch the live release in to...

Thanks in advance!

I dunno what happens without any IE.  ???

Keeping beta files is fine, you should be able to patch to live as long as you have the most recent build. (Build date 2011-11-17.)

If you have files in your Assets folder with "green" in the name, those are garbage and can be deleted-they're just taking up space. (18 or so gigs worth.)

Any idea if the live launcher will be different than the beta one was as far as the IE thing goes?
I didn't have any problems with launching beta...

And thanks for the tips!
I really appreciate it.

4. Come up with 8 names and don't forget to reserve them on day 1.
5. Come up with a Legacy name that meshes with the other 8.

I downloaded the pre-order version.

I ran a diff on the files between the pre-order version and the last beta patch version.

They are identical down to the bit.

Good lord, did any of you scroll through all the guilds that are on the same server our guilds are on?

Wow.

OK it appears that they reorganized how the guilds were displaying when you click on the server name.
I no longer see dozens of guilds with 400+ members  lol.

Yeah, I think it was bugged when you organized by a feature it actually took the list from ALL TOR guilds.
