The Guild
« on: Sep 29, 2011, 04:42 PM »
Hey all,

Obviously, if you are reading this you have some interest in playing SW:TOR with us when it launches December 20, 2011 or maybe you are in beta with us. Either way, welcome! I would like to briefly outline our intentions going forward with this guild.

About Me
There really isn't much to say as this is a brand new start and a brand new game for us. However, I can give you a little bit about our past. I have been leading guilds for the past 12 years. I ran an elite guild in Ultima Online called the Minax War Goons for about 5 years. We did everything from raid to PvP to just plan terrorizing noobs and quickly rose to be one of the best and most feared guilds in the UO world. I then took my guild leading experience to EverQuest 2 where I led a guild called Paradigm and then Tyranny (www.eq2tyranny.com) for little over 6 years.

About Us
Several of our core member, which were in Tyranny, quickly rose to be a worldwide competitive guild that continues to be highly respected in the community with multiple accomplishments including many WW1st's and other top kills. Many very skilled and intelligent players will be joining and, in the case of our veterans, rejoining our ranks to insure that our competitiveness, dedication and drive to excel are properly introduced into the SW:TOR galaxy. The majority of us have been gaming together for years in multiple genres, primarily in MMO's and FPS's.

Our Goal
Our goal is to put together a small, but effective, group of people that like to excel no matter what game they play. We plan on taking on raid content and PvP events while also enjoying the overall game. Our ultimate goal is to be one of, if not the best, guild in SW:TOR.

Playing times
As of right now we have no real playing time schedule or raid schedule; most of our members are on east coast schedules. These first few weeks will be an introduction to the game for most of us (with the exception of our beta testers). We will use this time efficiently to enjoy the game and level up. After that we will look at raiding and other guild events to follow.

Thanks for reading and I hope you found this post helpful. Please feel free to post or PM me any questions you might have. Look forward to seeing you in game.

Question: Are you planning on getting it set up pre-launch so that it imports into the game immediately on launch?

Pros: Everything is set up, name reserved, apparently some goofy website thing through them that will be irrelevant since this is being set up.

Big Con: Zero control over what server you get imported to, seems like there's some weird pre-assign thing you can try to do by pre-associating with other guilds, but beyond that its completely out of your hands.

More info: http://www.swtor.com/guilds/faq

Seems like guild names are unique gamewide, so if nothing else, might be wise to reserve it via their system than disband later if we want a specific server? I'm not sure if it would be freed up, but it seems the only way to reserve it.

Yes, we will be registering the guild asap. I am hoping by early next week we will have a name and the large details down so we can submit it into their process.

There's multiple slots for each name in the guild pre-registration, so it shouldn't be an issue. Also, the biggest pro is having the guild auto-form instead of having to gather a group of four to do it. Especially since headstart is staggered based on pre-order registration time. (The earlier you register your key, the earlier you get in.)

Check: http://www.swtor.com/guilds/search and search for Tyranny or Paradigm for examples of multiple name registrations. :D

Intentions
We're going to do things a little differently than we've done in the past, so I wanted to emphasize our current intentions a bit more. ( I will be using etc. excessively.)

  • Openness. (For lack of a better word.) Once we kill a mob, we'll be releasing the strat. This includes videos, walkthroughs with pictures, etc. This means we need people with rigs capable of recording high res video, people with editing skills, etc. We do have 256TB of space set aside just for video work, so we should be good on that front.
  • More openness. We expect our players to be experts in their respective classes. We would like to see as much theorycrafting, spec debates, etc. as possible on the site. While participation in these discussions isn't mandatory, it will be encouraged.
  • We won't be raiding on the same schedule as we have in the past. We will vary the schedule depending on what 'period' we're in. We'll raid more during progression periods and less during farm periods. And yes, I know this is standard operating procedure for raid guilds in Blizzard's behemoth; we have a number of people who never raided in that game and are used to relatively more insane schedules, so clarification was indicated.

Just got Topi's spam mail and figured I'd drop by and check out the site.  Looks great.  Fine work as always.

I have been in beta since August and looking forward to release. I can't wait to see how you all transfer your success to TOR.

Good luck with the guild I am sure you will achieve all of your goals if you can keep Topi interested!

We still have room. However, our numbers are growing fast.  If you are interested in joining us now would be the time as we expect our numbers to grow even larger closer to launch and in game. ;)

We're one step closer to the official launch of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™. The Pre-Launch Guild Program* will end on 12/2/11 at 11:59 p.m. CST so that guilds can be assigned to servers for Early Game Access.†

This is your last chance to:
•    Make any changes to your guild
•    Ensure your guild meets requirements for deployment into the game††
•    Designate your guild's Allies and Adversaries
•    Review pending guild application requests

Prior to Early Game Access, you will be notified by email to check the website for your guild's deployment status. For more information, please read the Guilds FAQ or contact Customer Service at www.swtor.com/support.

Make sure to get your applications in by Dec 2nd!

Hello everyone, I just applied (sortof) to the guild and decided to get to know some people.  I had a question about how you guys intend to handle the progression group.  I understand everyone must be a master of their class, and I certainly feel I will be.  However, since your core players have all known each other for so long, will that make it hard for newcomers to get spots in the main group?  I'm not expecting handouts, I was just curious.

That is a good question. My philosophy has always been simple regarding progression. Do what it takes to be successful and win. That usually means putting the best players into the right spots.

If you are the better player and are reliable you will get the start. I am confident our veteran players will preform , as I have seen them in action first hand, however if a new member is outperforming a veteran I will play the best player regardless of rank.

We plan on putting together a concrete set of rules and guidelines for operations in the near future. However, we are waiting to see what the raiding scene entails before we make any serious decisions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems awfully easily to field 2 raid forces at the same time as well with only 16 person raids.

For regular farming periods, we're currently looking at running an early raid (East Coast evenings) and a later raid (West Coast evenings).

So yeah, 2 raid forces are already planned.

For progression periods, we're going to take the best people so that we can to blow through content as quickly as possible. "Best" means:
  • People who can raid 5 days a week during progression.
  • The best players at their respective class. Performance, adaptability, gear, etc.
  • The optimum mix of classes for each fight.
The optimum mix of classes means that sometimes we'll need six healers, sometimes we'll need four tanks, etc. So the number of people participating in a progression push is not limited to sixteen. Doubly so with RL absences occurring, etc.

So if you rock your class and you want to be part of progression in this guild, you most likely will be.

Most likely. We are even thinking of setting up like a 8:00est and 11:00est crew for the late nighters.

Re-posted for reference: We plan on putting together a concrete set of rules and guidelines for operations in the near future. However, we are waiting to see what the raiding scene entails before we make any serious decisions.
