Noob to Rated Warzones...
« on: Aug 14, 2012, 10:40 AM »
Let me preface this by saying, that I have typically been more of a "casual PvPer"... it wasn't until recently that I really started spending any real amount of time in 50 warzones on my healer, and as such, I'm behind the 8-ball in that I'm just about finished putting my Battlemaster set together. (Healing PvP is a ton of fun, and I have enjoyed it as much as any of the PvE content I've done.. I've got my valor up to 54, and I have a LONG way to go.)

This is my current PvP gearing: http://swtor.askmrrobot.com/character/2a3a7606-128e-4e63-aacb-44db523329c6
(I have my PvE gear listed on the main tab, and my PvP gear is on the "Wish List" tab)

As you can see... I still have a recruit offhand which will be the next upgrade to Battlemaster, and I haven't decided if I will replace my PvE mainhand yet... I've been told that losing the stats might not be worth the extra +75 Expertise. Likewise, replacing my Champion Relic with battlemaster is a +3 End/Expertise Gain... but I will lose +97 Power, so I am leaving that alone. I am totally unsure of what to do with my Matrix Cube.. replace? War Hero? I dunno...

Anyway... my noob question is... I'm finding myself finally feeling faceroll-comfortable in non-rated warzones. I'm hitting 350-500k+ heals in matches, with minimal deaths, and a well above .500 win/loss ratio (unless I'm on a terrible team, going up against a premade.)........ Do I need to keep grinding coms to get a decent amount (or full) War Hero before I even consider going into Rated Warzones? Is it THAT gear-dependant? Or having a minimum of full Battlemaster + Not being a retard at the keyboard will be just fine?

Honestly the biggest obstacle that  rated presents is getting a group together to actually do it, since it requires 8 people to queue.

Warhero gear isn't that big of a step up from battlemaster when it comes right down to it, so i wouldn't worry about the gear differential.

That said, I'd wait for some feedback from someone who actually invests in the pvp side of the game, I enjoy it, but not as much as other aspects of the game.

Hope that helps some.

If you augment all the battlemaster gear, you won't be too far off or a WH geared player in standard gear. However, many people have already started/finished min/maxing their gear, meaning you will be at a disadvantage, but it may not be as bad as it could.

Toss the cube and get a pvp relic.

When putting in some pve gear, keep in mind that you want to have around 1200 expertise. Some people keep more, some a little less. Mess around with it.

IMO.

Follow what Zetsuma said, But you really do want pvp gear for pvp, and not pve gear for pvp, I understand where you said "losing x amount of stats for x amount of expertise, where by expertise pushes your damage/healing (especially) in pvp, because the healing is so shitty now.

I suggest you get 2x WH relics the ones with power, and augment those. Having passive power stats is always better than anything right now.
And of course work on the WH gear, and make sure everytime you upgrade a piece to WH, just make sure you augment it. that +18 primary stat or power. Is actually alot.

WH Gear will always be better than anything in PvP. People may think, " oh what, I only gain like 10 expertise from changing BM - WH, but if you calculate 10 expertise x # of gear you have to change out. It is alot.

And expertise helps out on damage reduction in PvP, it's really not a big deal for some, but as a healer's point of view, you will want as much expertise as possible, just for survivalbility.

And about the gear, if you want full potential of your gear, you should do more reading/asking around for class opinions, on what stats you should be pushing for healing, be it alacrity/crit/surge/power. And even your primary stat, because Crit has a softcap, you will want your primary stat so high that it only hits near the crit softcap, other than that the left over will not benefit you as much as power will.

It all primarily depends on how you want to control the game.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
(except Paradoxx, since I've already been told to ignore everything he says)

Basically, I need to replace my recruit offhand and PvE mainhand, and augment them. (I've already augmented everything else).

Then I need two War Hero relics (most likely Power).

Then start grinding coms to replace Battlemaster with War Hero and get cracking on re-itemization........

I see a lot of warzones in my immediate future.. Gonna need a shitton of coms.

To be honest you wanna scrap your PvE relics like mentioned above and use PvP ones.

But, I would recommend using the orange bracers with PvP mods.
Here is my link just for reference with the bracers/belt
http://swtor.askmrrobot.com/character/7a169ca6-e7b8-407b-9f7c-171d5ff49d2e
You lose a TINY bit of dmg reduction, but you get a LOT more power and extra health so it's a worthy trade off.. swapping 40 expertise for 1) the stat of your choice (one classes are forced to have only crit for example) and 2) more HP.

Also use a FULL SUIT of Cunning Augments, forget about Power completely. It ends up being an extra 15 dmg or 1% crit.. and tbh 1% crit is MUCH better then 15 damage.
and by 15 dmg I mean 15 dmg more then a full cunning suit.

So.. Belt/Bracers with PvE armoring and PvP mods (augmented) is best in slot?

Also, I'm assuming you mean Willpower augments (which I have, not all Advanced tho, I used the leftover Prototypes from when I re-itemized my PvE gear)..... not Cunning.. Unless bioware did something sneaky with the code that I'm unaware of.

i disagree u lose 80 exp to gain like 70 / 70 main stat and end

mind u that much end is worthless when u have good healers i guess it would matter in 1v1s but that rarely happens in 8v8

as for main stat sure u gain 80 which is like 0.1 % crit and like 20 dmg bonus (i have posted convertion rates somewhere on forum)

dmg bonus from 80 exprt vs 70 main stat is close to being same but i would still take dmg bonus from expertise over 70 main stat

as far as 70 end goes well look at it this way u take on avg 200k dmg per warzone 70 end does absolutly nothing against that on other hand 80 exp will reduce that dmg taken and increase ur healing rec

typing on phone sux

See Civic, that's where I think you're wrong.
As a healer you want to hit your softcap crit for healing, but you will want power more. Because Crit is Nice when you heal, but if you have no power, your crit only goes so high, and with the damage people are doing right now. Power non-crit heals can save someones life, in a heartbeat, where by if you don't place enough power, but stack crit, and you do not CRIT 100% of the time. That person will die.

From a DPS stand point of view, crit is better yea, who the hell cares I mean I am beating on the guy anyway, so having crit>power no matter what I am beating on the dude, he will die.

That's why you don't fully stack augments, and you min/max your healing.

Well thats why I said orange bracers with PVE mods, cause you can then have two power pieces and not one or two crit.
Trust me, expertise isn't as good as you think.

You want survivability? well the more HP you have, the bigger your self heals are anyway (especially from the WZ medpack) and you'll have power > expertise, so again, a bit more balance on the heals.

Too much expertise is overkill. Losing 70 expertise for 70power+endurance is worth it and I cannot understand why you think it isn't.
I would much rather have 5% health over 1% dmg reduction :) Think about it.. from 100% to 0% (dead) you have a 4% advantage..

War Hero Force Master Bracer
58 Endurance
92 Willpower
70 Expertise
39 Power

Orange Bracer
88 Endurance
130 Willpower
30 Expertise
39 Power

You gain 38 Willpower, and 30 Endurance, but lose 40 Expertise.
x2 = +76 Willpower, +60 Endurance, -80 Expertise.

Plus, the Force Masters belt has crit, not power.. although you can just get Force Mystic belt, it's still not as good as the orange belt imo.

If I lose 80 Expertise, I only lose 0.8% dmg reduction. (tested on Civic with 1080 Expertise.. so will be less on Civ cause of the slight DR with 1200 Expertise)
So technically, from 100% to 0% (dead) the Orange Bracers give better survivability by about 4%.

yeah its main stat and not power

u will never go from 100% to dead in warzone atleast not how we do it u will get heals and more expertise u have  more heals and less dmg vs that 70 end that gives u only warzone heal bonus which is minimal and u can only use it once per fight

differences are minimal but in long fights in rated expertise is clear winner
plus it shows that ur wearing 140 armoring inside them?
