TV Worth Watching
« on: Jan 14, 2014, 09:08 PM »
Thought about posting what shows I'm keeping current with since Game of Thrones has everyone excited. These are just shows that are in production at the moment. I'm not including shows that have ended their runs because this list would be unwieldy. This is just stuff I'm enjoying at the moment that will have at least another season.

BBC:
Sherlock - One of the more talked about shows and biggest successes of the BBC in America. Features Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, and gave both their careers a huge shot in the arm. Each episode is 1.5 hours, Seasons One and Two are available on Netflix streaming. Season Three was just released in the BBC and will be aired in the U.S. in the near future.

Channel 4:
Black Mirror - Channel 4 is a British channel and features some pretty awesome content. Black Mirror is a not recognized enough show that is something like technophobia meets the Twilight Zone. Black Mirror takes place in the near future that is familiar because it builds on technological trends we see daily.

Utopia - The story follows a small group of people who find themselves in possession of the manuscript sequel of a cult graphic novel called "The Utopia Experiments" which is rumored to have predicted the worst disasters of the last century. This leads them to be targeted by an organization known as 'The Network', which they must avoid to survive. Using the manuscript, they must uncover the meaning hidden in its pages before the disasters depicted become reality.

FX:
The Americans - The Americans follows the day to day lives of two deep cover Soviet operatives in 1981. Great show, and my favorite trailer of the lot.

Justified - An often overlooked show featuring Timothy Olyphant as the main protagonist. Features one of the most compelling performances by Walton Goggins, who is Olyphant's nemesis. Based off a book series taking place in rural Kentucky. Short version is Olyphant is a U.S. Marshall born about 100 years too late.

HBO:
Boardwalk Empire - Martin Scorsese for television. A period piece set during the start of prohibition and the rise of organized crime in Atlantic City. All the characters are well cast and well acted, the setting is meticulous. As good as Game of Thrones. Often overlooked because of how huge Game of Thrones has become.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians- Ive been watching the Kardashians for years and yes they're my guilty pleasure.I just now caught up with this season because I don't have E! channel anymore and I must say this show is still really good, I purchased the individual episodes from amazon and only thought i would watch one or two but couldn't stop watching them one after one and I ended up purchasing the whole season it was so good.I felt like in like the last year or so that the show had gotten a bit tired but this season is really good. I like how the show is exploring Bruce's family more, which is probably what has revived the show. I can see how the separation between Bruce and Kris climaxed. And also Kim seemed so miserable during her whole pregnancy, which was surprising because for years she had been talking about having a baby and that she wanted to be a mother really bad. Khloe also looks so unhappy in her marriage to Lamar throughout most of this season. It seems like she was just fed up with Lamar and his "emotional problems" as she labeled it. You never know completely the whole story behind closed doors because the magazines had been writing that he had been cheating on her and partying and eventually it was revealed that he had a drug addiction so she was probably going through hell but on the show only judging from how she acts and what she says about their relationship it seems like she got fed up a bit too fast, but who really knows the whole story? 10/10 would watch again.

I don't watch a lot of TV outside of sports, here's my list.

Still Running
The League - It is the best show on television. You don't have to like football to enjoy it.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Game of Thrones
Homeland
tosh.0

Guilty Pleasures that I know aren't for everyone
Marvel Agents of Shield
Top Chef

Shows you should binge watch if you have never seen
Chapelle Show
Mr. Show
Arrested Development
The Office: BBC

Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
The Community (pretty funny but not for everyone)
Arrow

Other than that I don't watch anything but not surprising coming from a guy who's never watched a single Star Wars movie.

Doctor Who  - If you haven't watched it... you need to.  It will change your life.   But you HAVE to make it past the first season (2005).

Starz new series about pirates, Black Sails, has their first episode up on YouTube for free. It's set in a historically accurate period in the early 1700's where pirates had basically their own country centered in Naussau, Bahamas. Anyone who has played AC IV Black Flag will recognize more than a few landmarks and characters. Supposedly its set to follow Captain Flint, twenty years before the events of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island.

First Episode is here, along with a short promo at the start. Bear McCreary does the music because, well, because he does all the music nowadays. I'll probably download and sit on these episodes till I'm ready to watch them. The opening titles roll at the 8:40 mark and are pretty sweet. One of the better ones I've seen.

Just chiming in.  This weekend i watched the first 3 seasons of Justified since they were up for free on Amazon Prime.  Wasn't bad, but not quite as good as I was hoping it'd be.  Could have something to do with marathoning it, but it really started to get repetitive and the second half of season 2 was terrible but season 3 perks back up a bit and overall there is worse shit on tv.

I'm not sure this is something that's worth watching, that's completely subjective. From the creators of Rugrats:

I've started watching Once Upon a Time, actually fairly good despite dealing with Fairy Tale characters. The guy that plays the bad guy is fantastic. I'm only in the middle of season one but am looking forward to catching up.
