I'm signed up to take the GRE in ten days. Was wondering if anyone who'd taken it could offer some advice or what to expect. A month after I take it is the application deadline for the spring admission of the masters program I want to get into so time is of the essence and taking it more than once to improve my score is going to be rough.

My wife has, and says that once you register for the test, she was provided with a login for a site with study materials that she found very helpful, so don't neglect that. She did several practice tests first on her own. She was glad she brushed up on her trig as well.

I've heard that the GRE's vocab sections can be brutal if that's not a strong suit for you.

I'm an English Lit and Film and Media Studies dual major. Vocab, and general English isn't going to be an issue. Math is my hang up.

Here is what my wife said. First of all make sure the school you are going to requires it because it was the hardest test she's ever taken, also some schools dont require it til the end.

If the school requires it then study, study, study, study, and take up religion and start praying.

When she got serious she said that if you don't think vocab will be a problem that's good. She said find a study guide and use it. She remembers there being a lot of exponents on math and knowing a lot of the rules for exponents. She also said brush up on current events she had a total of three writing prompts and two were on current events.

Don't stress the test. It's not pass or fail, but the higher percentile the better chances of getting into your desired graduate program. At the same time don't take the test lightly when you start it the questions get harder and harder as the test goes. Be prepared to take the test for three hours and brush up on anything you think you may feel is a weak point for you.

Finally take the practice exams. Good luck!
