Know what you're up against! (A PvP guide)
« on: May 16, 2013, 10:33 PM »
Hey everyone, this is a little write-up I decided to do for various reasons, the first and foremost of which is that so we all know exactly what we're up against right when we see it in pvp.  I'll be listing off all the classes and specs, what to look for to identify the specs, and any special tricks or tactics they may try to pull on you.  I will NOT be listing basic abilities unless they're affected by the talents.  The point of this guide is to help identify all the different specs of a class and to know what sets them apart from each other.  I'll be writing the Republic and Imperial versions of everything, and will seperate them like so: Republic Version / Imperial Version

It is obviously not complete yet as there's alot to write about.  I'll be adding more classes as I get the time and willpower to do so.  So without further delay, here it is.

Jedi Guardian / Sith Juggernaut

Defense / Immortal

And I disappear, a ghost admidst the combat, preparing to strike.
It was your own fault; You should have paid attention and looked through the lie.
A most confused death, dead before he even knew where I struck from.
Farewell foolish thing.  Know that you have been deceived, as your soul moves on.

This would definitely help with classes we aren't familiar with.

If you want to lighten your load, mayhaps you could employ the various people who play these specs to give you a guide for you to look over, modify, then post. I think that a tidbit on how to fuck that class-spec over would also be a good addition.

A good suggestion, a part on how to beat each spec would be nice, but it would also have to be different for every class vs. every class.  It's a little too much I think.

Keep in mind that the point of this guide is not to teach people how to play their class or exactly how every other class is played, it's simply to help people identify exactly what their competition is.  For example, after reading this, nobody should ever just see a marauder as a marauder on the enemy team.  They should see exactly what spec he is right away and immediately know what to expect from him.  Using this combined with their own knowledge of their class, they can plan on how to deal with this marauder right away in a more skillful manner than if they knew nothing about the specs.

I'm making this guide with our guild as the target audience, so I am expecting readers to be good at the game and their own classes, and be capable of coming up with methods to deal with these things on their own.  This guide is simply here as a resource to learned from so people can more easily identify and deal with anyone they encounter in PvP.

With all that said, if anyone feels like there should be another ability mentioned anywhere, just let me know which one and why.  Feel free to add any information about any mentioned ability if you feel it's lacking as well.

thanks
In today's game, speed is no longer an advantage, it's the price of entry.
Everyone is fast but only few can change the game in an instant.
Only few can play at full speed while remaining in total control.
Only few can strike fear into an opponent before the whistle blows.

Sage: Both hybrids 2/28/16 0/30/16, and 2/16/28 all have both force in balance and telekinetic wave.

The most competitive spec I've seen so far is the former. TK has the hardest hitting ability, BUT you are a victim to LoS and interrupts far more than the other specs.

Also if you're a sage playing against a Tk/Lightning spec, cleanse the dot, I see so many of these "top" healers that don't cleanse it.

Added the Commando / Mercenary section.

Also, thank you for those tips Xanxas, that's exactly what I'm looking for.  If anyone else has information like that they want to add, or if you feel something needs correction or extra clarification, please post about it.  I've included Xanxas' information in the How to Recognize sections of Telekinetics and Balance.
