Podcast with Chris Roberts, things to take away.

1. Origin acquired by EA in 92, in 1996 when his contract expired he left EA b/c he doesn't like big corporations

2. His studio Anvil acquired by Microsoft in 2k1, left b/c he doesn't like big corporations.

3. Set up investors to help produce Star Citizen, decided to crowd fund to demonstrate the power of the fanbase to the investors. Has made so much money at this point that he is telling some of his investors he won't need their contributions anymore because he doesn't want people who are just interested in profit. States over and over again that he's here to make a great game.

If this is good when it releases and is even somewhat comparable to a modern Earth and Beyond, all bets are off on every other game.
And I disappear, a ghost admidst the combat, preparing to strike.
It was your own fault; You should have paid attention and looked through the lie.
A most confused death, dead before he even knew where I struck from.
Farewell foolish thing.  Know that you have been deceived, as your soul moves on.

In four days Star Citizen raised went from 12 to 13 million total raised.

New stretch goal for 15 million includes a new class of ship, the escort carrier.

So I've been asked by about a half dozen people what the concepts of a "sandbox" style MMO is versus what we see in ToR (and 95% of the MMO market). The best phrase I've come to describe it is this.

In ToR, it's the destination, not the journey. The game is constructed to come to a focal point at max level. Everything you do in the game will prepare you for max level.

In SC and other sandbox style games, it's the journey, not the destination. The game is constructed where the only destination is the one you choose and there are no guidelines on how to get there.

Now for the cool shit.

Collected info on Piracy, lot of really interesting info

I had kickstarted this project back when it was up.  I heard they recently crossed 14 million raised between that and their own website.  Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.  I loved the WC series back in the day.

Two really good threads that got posted.

Keynotes from 24 hour live stream event - Basically this guy sat through the entire 24 hour live stream event from a couple of weeks back and took down every important note or interesting thing and organized it into a nice thread.

Guide To Star Citizen - A thread that is still under construction, but looks like it will be the "go-to" thread for anything and everything.

Just a heads up for those who have pledged, you can now check your packages and see what hangar you'll be getting when the hangar module goes live later this month. There are three levels in descending order, Deluxe, Business and Discount. Whatever is the highest hangar quality will be what you get with the module. For example I currently have a Origin 325a Fighter add on which grants me a discount hangar, but I also purchased the Colonel Package which grants me the business hangar. In the first iteration of the hangar, the Idris cruiser won't be available so the largest ship will be the Constellation. Because of this, the Constellation is the only ship to get a deluxe hangar. I'm planning on picking up one of these before the hangar goes live.

From what I've been seeing from the weekly podcasts/wingman's hangar episodes, the team is working basically 7 days a week to get the hangar module out on time.

So you can run around your hanger and mess around, but no space stuff? Sounds like fun and I'm impressed they're letting the backers get a look already. Kudos to them.
