It looks like the creative genius behind Wing Commander is rebooting the genre with a new game:

All I can say is about effing time. Wing Commander was my first love for PC gaming way back in the day.

So Star Citizen has seen some updates recently. After the Kickstarter raised some two million dollars, the website they launched continued to crowdfund and currently they've raised over twelve million dollars.

The new website

You can continue to pledge money and in turn purchase packages or ships. If you are a veteran pledge you get LTI - Life Time Insurance. Veteran Pledge Status deadlines was the June 24th I believe. Anyway, this bad boy looks the shit, they're continuing to set benchmarks for what will be in the game at launch depending on how much money is donated. Currently there are over 100 star systems for launch. This is shaping up to be a pretty exciting sandbox experience.

Here's some of the new videos, in engine, as in go fuck yourself consoles.

300 Series Commercial - Director's Cut

300 Series Spacecraft Showroom

Player Character Modeling

So, you've pledged and have access to Alpha and Beta, but you bought this imaginary starship and have nothing to show for it? Negative. In August the Alpha goes modular with the release of the Hangar. You'll be able to run an Alpha program that will allow you to see the ships attached to your account, in engine, in hangar.

Here's pretty much the best for last in my opinion. During a recent livecast on Twitch, Chris Roberts busted out a sandbox demonstration in editor of the Constellation class ship. The Constellation is made to be manned by two to four people and the level of detail inside the ship is amazing. He goes over all the animations and points out some of the really cool features present.

is this the new Chrysler?
In today's game, speed is no longer an advantage, it's the price of entry.
Everyone is fast but only few can change the game in an instant.
Only few can play at full speed while remaining in total control.
Only few can strike fear into an opponent before the whistle blows.

My friend showed me this a couple months ago. We both pledged like 200 bucks to the game. Looks amazing, I have high hopes.

Lifetime Insurance(LTI) Clarification

Quote
In the future, packages will include Standard Hull Insurance which must be renewed after a set period (currently between 1 and 6 months depending on the package) instead of Lifetime Insurance. We want to be absolutely clear that Standard Hull Insurance, which offers the same exact protection, is available to all players in the game. Players simply need to continue to renew it with credits earned in-game. LTI is intended to make this more convenient for our early backers, not to unbalance the game in any way. Insurance does not negate the cost of repairing, rearming or docking your ship. It protects your hull in its current condition and does not allow you to explode a beaten up ship to exchange for a fresh one at no cost.

    Lifetime Insurance *
Replaces your ship hull in the event of destruction or theft.
Hull is replaced with an identical model in equivalent condition.
Effective indefinitely with no additional in-game fee.
    Standard Hull Insurance *
Replaces your ship hull in the event of destruction or theft.
Hull is replaced with an identical model in equivalent condition.
Effective for a set period of time: currently one, three or six months.
Must be renewed with in-game credits once expired.

* Insurance claims may be denied in cases of proven fraud.
